1987 Jeep Wrangler YJ

I will be updating this page as the build progresses.

The best Fabrication shop you’ll find anywhere! They will be doing all of the fab work for this project.

Before I started the rebuild this is how the Jeep looked when I bought it (I did add the bumpers).

Not much was done right, springs were flat, jeep was weak.

  • 4.2 inline 6 cyl
  • Peugeot BA10 Transmission
  • 3″ Body Lift
  • Shackle Lift
  • Factory Axles
  • 16″ Cragar Wheels
  • 30″ Tires
Found a frame in great condition and drove to Savanah to pick it up.
The frame came back from it’s initial blasting.

The frame is currently at Franken Fab getting all new 1/4″ steel mounts welded on!

We found a matching axle set out of an old F250! D44 front and D60 rear.

We are stripping them down to the housing blasting them and painting them.

We are rebuilding them with Yukon parts and adding air lockers.

We have recieved an Atlas 4 speed Transfer Case and a new AX-15 Transmission.

The body is being prepared for the stretch. We will be adding ~15″ to its length, so that LJ Tops will fit it.

Striping the bottom to make blasting easier.
This is the worst of the damage, and its right where we are stretching the jeep, so should be an easy fix.
Designing the new dash, leaning towards a black walnut dash.

There will be a 1″ body lift, 1.5″ Shakle lift and a 1.5″ frame lift. The axles will be put under the leaf to add an additional 3″+ to the lift. With 18″ wheels and 37″ tires, the bottom of the tub should be about 31″ off the ground. Wish Opal luck getting into the jeep!! The front end will be converted to coil springs simular to the TJ.

You can see how bad off this jeep was and I think we will actually be able to polish this turd into a gem.

We have striped the engine down to the block and have decided to completely rebuild.  We wanted everything to be perfect and since we couldn’t find a shop with a torque plate I had a shop machine one for us.

We still need to work on the fuel system but have the engine internals purchased and ready for the block to come back from the machine shop.

Other things that we will be using for the build below.

I was scouring the internet and found Bull Dawg MFG, good luck finding a better hardtop! Can barely wait to get mine.

Took a tour of Terrapod to see their Rooftop Tent. Amazing company with a tent to match!

I will be getting one of these for my build!
